چکیده

SUMMARY We investigate numerically some thermomechanical conditions for the development of crustal scale diapirism and convection in a heterogeneous continental crust independently from action regional tectonics. Here, we consider hot crust, with unmolten partially molten domains specific temperature strain-rate dependent power-law rheologies. take advantage volume fluid (VOF) method to capture coalescence separation deformable inclusions domain. The inclusions, several hundred metres size, are more or less dense viscous respect ambient medium (they also behave rheology). restrict our study 20 Myr time scale, during which gravitational dynamics may dominate over lateral tectonics lithospheric thermal re-equilibration. motion these instabilities displays distinct flow regimes that depend on two Rayleigh numbers denoted RaUM RaPM, rock properties, respectively. A ‘suspension’ regime occurs at high most light compositional heterogeneities remain entrained convective cells. In contrast low ‘layering’ is characterized by merging as floating clusters below rigid upper lid. This association sharp viscosity gradient upper-to-middle transitional depths. regimes, accumulate bottom zone. Finally moderate ‘diapiric’ reflects segregation heavy respectively downward upward, without global convection. These numerical experiments lead first order evaluation physical parameters required variable densities convection, provide insights migmatite domes. Stress-driven melt segregation in partially molten rocks

[1] We demonstrate that deformation of partially molten ductile rocks can produce melt segregation by two-phase flow. In simple shear experiments on several melt-rock systems at high temperature and pressure, melt segregates into distinct melt-rich layers oriented 20 to the shear plane. Melt segregates in samples in which pressure gradients can develop at length scales less than the sample thic...

Thermohahe Convection with Two Stable Regimes of Flow

Free convection between two interconnected reservoirs, due to density differences maintained by heat and salt transfer to the reservoirs, is shown to occur sometimes in two different stable regimes, and may possibly be analogous to certain features of the oseanic circulation. The density of sea-water is modified while at the surface by two distinct processes: heating and cooling, which change t...

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

Numerical simulation of wavy falling film flow using VOF method

Surface wave dynamics of vertical falling films under monochromatic-frequency flowrate-forcing perturbations is computed by the direct simulation of Navier–Stokes equations using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method to track free surfaces and the Continuum Surface Force (CSF) model to account for dynamic boundary conditions at free surfaces. The numerical VOF–CSF model is completely formulated, and...
